This charity is the leading commissioner of prevention and treatment services within their area of social concern across Great Britain. Their vision is based on a whole-system approach, which acknowledges the many other organisations, networks and individuals they will work with to deliver programmes across health, education and broader society impact across all sectors of society. The research carried out provides advice and information, raises awareness and keeps people safe.
Accountable to the Chief Commissioning Officer the purpose of this role is to lead the shaping, direction and delivery of the research elements of the Research, Data & Evaluation strategy to develop knowledge that: • Builds the evidence for awareness raising, education and treatment approaches, design and commissioning. • Informs advocacy and influences policymaking at national and local level. • Informs public awareness.
As the research leader, the role will significantly contribute to achieving the organisation’s strategic priorities: • Accelerate engagement and awareness to deliver targeted activity to raise awareness, reduce stigma and encourage engagement. • Transform capacity and capability by collaborating with the NHS, public health agencies, local authorities, and voluntary sector organisations across England, Scotland, and Wales to support the growth of an integrated system of prevention provision. • Increase equity and champion diversity to understand and address inequalities in experiences. • Deliver best-in-class research commissioning with the focus on improving processes and systems to enhance good governance, maximising transparency and value for money. We will include the VOC experience in the co-production of awareness raising, support, and treatment services.
Key accountabilities: 1. Lead and drive the delivery of the organisation’s strategic priorities across research. 2. Determine all research projects and programmes, including research and campaign development and public awareness advertising campaigns; capacity building programmes with Academic partners; 3. Hold the overview of the Research Portfolio, determining organisational priorities in consultation with the Evaluation & Monitoring Director and the Prevention Director, taking final direction from the Chief Commissioning Officer 4. Develop and embed the knowledge dissemination function and activity for internal and external audiences. 5. Determine the longer-term strategy for commissioning research
We seek extensive experience of leading the methodological design of both quantitative and qualitative research in a relevant social research setting (ideally public health but broader public sector and charity backgrounds will be considered) in either an agency, academic, charity or public sector setting, ideally a mix. A strong background in advertising and comms is essential as you will work in close partnership with the comms agency to inform and measure outstanding campaigns. Experience in policy research and insights and overseeing grant agreements are also required. Significant and demonstrable experience of team management and leadership, both of a team and senior stakeholders is required and excellent communication skills and gravitas are needed to enable the organisation has the very best outcomes with senior partners and MPs.
