Our client is a growing social research consultancy committed to the mission of rebalancing power dynamics across knowledge production and humanitarian interventions within and beyond the international development sector. Their diverse and international researchers include experts in conflict, gender, climate change and forced displacement and they successfully carry out M&E and research projects across Fragile and Conflict-Affected situations in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
They now seek an Economist with a background in international development. You will lead the economic, financial, and quantitative dimensions of their work. You will work across a broad pipeline of evaluations, value-for-money assessments and market and economic analyses. This is an opportunity to work across multiple projects, countries, and donors rather than a single programme, with direct involvement in how assignments are designed and delivered
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the economic, financial, and quantitative components of evaluations, analyses, and studies
- Design and apply value-for-money and cost-effectiveness frameworks, including the 4Es
- Design and conduct quantitative analysis, including econometric methods such as difference-in-difference and propensity score matching, using Python.
- Lead or contribute to climate and development finance analysis, including the tracking and leveraging of finance flows
- Contribute economic framing to theories of change, evaluation matrices, and data collection tools
Experience
ยท Your econometric experience will come from one or more of these areas:
Climate and blended/innovative finance, market systems development, poverty and distributional analysis, public finance, financial inclusion and private-sector finance: SME finance, access-to-finance analysis, or financial-sector development.
- Master's degree or PhD in economics, finance, development economics, public policy with a strong quantitative component, or a closely related field
- Strong quantitative skills, including econometric analysis, and proficiency in at least one statistical package (Stata, R, or Python)
- Experience designing or applying value-for-money or cost-effectiveness analysis
- A track record of producing clear, rigorous analytical writing in English for client or policy audiences
- Experience working with, or delivering research and evaluation for, UN agencies, bilateral donors, multilateral development banks, or INGOs
- Working proficiency in French, Portuguese, Arabic or Spanish would be a benefit
This role requires very regular travel so applicants must not have restrictions on their travel capabilities.
