Our client is a well-known market research supplier looking for a mixed methods researcher to join the Energy and Environment Team. Their hugely impactful research and evaluation portfolio means they are influencing energy and environment policy across national and international governments. They conduct complex multi-year evaluations on key policy priorities (energy innovation, decarbonisation, circular economy, air quality and agricultural transition), working internationally on COP26 legacy and net zero projects, and running an engagement dialogue on climate change adaptation.

The role…
This is an exciting opportunity for a mixed-methods researcher with experience of research and/or evaluation design and project management to join a growing team working on transformational policy issues that will help the UK transition to net zero, enhance climate resilience and support nature recovery. You will learn more about research and evaluation methods as well as gaining greater knowledge of key energy and environment policy areas, in a friendly environment where you have multiple people to learn from to develop your skills.

We are looking for someone who has experience in quantitative and qualitative. Experience in working on policy evaluation is desirable but not essential.

Specific responsibilities might include:

  • Building and managing effective client relationships through strong communication with individual client teams and their stakeholders.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered on budget and to time, through effective project planning.
  • Monitoring projects’ financial progress, identifying problems and suggesting solutions.
  • Designing high-quality first and subsequent drafts of questionnaires and topic guides to meet client/study objectives (and for review by project directors).
  • Designing effective sampling and weighting strategies for surveys and/or setting appropriate recruitment quotas for qualitative projects.
  • Moderating in-depth interviews and discussion groups.
  • Effectively managing relationships with suppliers and internal operations colleagues, to ensure successful qualitative recruitment or survey fieldwork across a range of methods (like telephone and online).
  • Reviewing draft deliverables (e.g. data tables) to ensure that they are client-ready and providing feedback to junior team members.
  • Designing analysis plans and report outlines, and subsequently leading on narrative-driven reports and presentations that deliver the insights to meet our clients’ objectives.

  • A keen interest in energy, climate and environmental policies
  • Solid quantitative and qualitative social research skills
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects from inception through to delivery
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and a focus on solutions
  • Proven ability to work well with clients, in teams, and with suppliers
  • Market research project management and budget management skills
  • Time management skills, working across multiple projects, prioritising tasks efficiently
  • Ability to work to tight and demanding deadlines to deliver profitable work and assure quality of all outputs
  • Experience in writing questionnaires, discussion guides, fieldwork materials etc.
  • Ability to understand and interpret qualitative and quantitative data
  • Confident and clear written and verbal communication skills, including experience of preparing written reports and presentations, with a high level of accurate use of English and the ability to write in a variety of styles
