We are looking for an Associate Director - Research & Evaluation to join our clients highly successful Policy and Evaluation Unit. The team works with public institutions to assess the effectiveness and impact of policies and programmes and to improve public services. This role will focus on the evaluation of social policies and programmes aimed at tackling complex societal issues relating to crime, security, governance, employment and education.

The role…
We are looking to recruit an Associate Director with a strong background in social policy evaluation to help us continue and accelerate our growth in this market. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of social policy areas, but we are particularly interested in candidates with experience and / or interest in working in the cohesion, security and criminal justice policy areas.
As an Associate Director, you will be primarily responsible for the design, management and delivery of mixed-method evaluation studies. These will typically incorporate both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, based on high quality methods that meet HM Treasury Magenta / Green Book standards.

 


You will also play an important role in business development, leading on winning proposals and identifying opportunities for further growth and increasing our profile, while supporting the team and wider management of the business.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  1. Managing evaluation projects through the full project cycle from design to data collection and analysis, through to developing conclusions and recommendations
  2. Developing client relationships while ensuring projects are delivered to budget and timescale
  3. Collaborating with colleagues, as well as external partners, to deliver studies and provide advisory inputs
  4. Developing Theories of Change and evaluation frameworks
  5. Identifying and implementing appropriate evaluation methodologies and approaches
  6. Developing research tools (e.g. discussion guides, questionnaires and surveys)
  7. Drafting high quality, accessible and concise client ready outputs
  8. Presenting the findings from evaluation to clients and key stakeholders
  9. Leading evaluation proposals
  10. Developing specialist expertise in a policy or methodological area
  11. Supporting junior team members and colleagues
  12. Working alongside the Senior Management Team with strategic and operational management

 

What do I need to bring with me….

This role will suit candidates who enjoy working closely with clients in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone with:

  1. Proven track record of delivering social policy evaluations for public sector clients
  2. Good knowledge and experience of both quantitative and qualitative (i.e. mixed-method) approaches
  3. Good knowledge and experience of different types of evaluation methodologies and their application to social policies and programmes
  4. Knowledge and experience of social policy areas such as crime (e.g. domestic abuse, youth violence), justice (e.g. prisons, probation), national security (e.g. counter terrorism) or vulnerabilities (e.g. unemployment, care)
  5. Proven ability to manage and deliver projects to timescale and budgets with limited supervision
  6. Proven ability to lead winning evaluation proposals
  7. Experience of establishing and managing strong client relationships
  8. Confident and clear written and verbal communication skills, including experience of preparing presentations and written reports
  9. Time management skills and ability to work across multiple projects, prioritising tasks efficiently
  10. Proven ability to work well in teams and experience of managing individuals as well as project teams
