Our client is a global communications agency dedicated to helping its clients to tackle complex behavioural and social issues. Clients include a range of governments, INGO's, foundations and multilaterals. With a strong focus on countering malign influences, including countering violent extremism, using multimedia messaging campaigns. In order to provide formative research support and evaluate the progress of the campaigns, a specialist research team exists within the company to service these requirements. This role will focus on Central and Eastern Europe.
In order to effectively manage the assessment of these communication campaigns, the Research Manager will be responsible for implementing research and evaluation strategies. Generally, these evaluation strategies will make use of either (or often both) qualitative and quantitative research and the focus is to find candidates with strong end to end survey design and implementation experience, gained either form a research agency or in house research role. The Research Manager will become confident in designing assessment frameworks to ensure both the effectiveness of the messaging is assessed, as well as the assessment of the strategy/Theory of Change itself. The Research Manager will analyse datasets to produce baseline, midline and endline reports as well as quick cuts of data and immediate insights. The position will require frequent liaison with research partners (internationally in the field). The position will also entail some other research tasks including open-source research, desk reviews, lessons learned/best practice write ups, etc.
Key responsibilities
- Designing and managing primary research projects
- Carrying out analysis and triangulation of qualitative and quantitative data for assessing the performance and effectiveness of multimedia communications activity.
- Rigorously manipulating data sets to provide meaningful and actionable insights.
- Writing assessment reports and feeding research findings into other reporting.
- Designing data collection tools for pre-testing, formative research and assessment (such as questionnaires, discussion guides).
- Liaising with research fieldwork partners and work collaboratively on research projects and oversee all project management when outsourced.
- Feeding into strategy/Theory of Change development.
Skills and experience
- Minimum 3 years relevant research experience.
- Experience with evaluating behavioural change would be an advantage.
- Experience working on projects in developing countries, fragile states and conflict zones would be extremely advantageous.
- Quantitative and qualitative research experience.
- Experience designing and conducting mixed methods research studies would be an advantage, quantitative is essential.
- Experience managing research projects from design to report writing.
- Experience evaluating the impact/effectiveness of multimedia communications activity advantageous.
- Strong quantitative analysis skills (with experience using SPSS, R or Stata).
- Good communication skills including experience presenting research findings and explaining technical concepts to multiple stakeholders including non-researchers, clients, etc.
- Experience designing logical frameworks (logframes) and assessment strategies.
- Data visualisation skills and experience using data visualisation software such as tableau would be a bonus.
- A strong work ethic with ability to stick to deadlines is essential.
