Our client is a market leader in social research and seeks a new mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) researcher to join the Health and Social Care team working on their hugely impactful research and evaluation portfolio.

This organisation’s extensive reach means they are influencing policy across the NHS, from deliberation with the public around complex trade-offs, to major patient experience surveys, the measurement of public perceptions, evaluation of programmes such as cancer diagnostic interventions and a host of mixed methods studies around topics such as health inequalities, technology in the adult social care sector and use of health services.

This is an exciting opportunity for a developing researcher to learn more about methods and project management, in order to take on an increasing role in managing high profile studies which influence and inform decision-making about health services. You will learn this in a friendly environment where you have multiple people to learn from to develop your skills.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Managing smaller quantitative and qualitative research projects from inception through to delivery, or managing strands of larger projects
  • Expanding your methodological knowledge and sharing learnings across projects
  • Effectively managing relationships with suppliers and with internal operations colleagues to ensure the objectives of the research are met and on budget
  • Drafting questionnaires and discussion guides that meet clients’ and stakeholders’ objectives
  • Drafting fieldwork materials such as invitation letters, interviewer instructions and recruitment materials
  • Managing and monitoring fieldwork
  • Moderating depth interviews and discussion groups
  • Drafting data specifications and checking data files
  • Setting up qualitative analysis frameworks
  • Writing reports and presentations that deliver insights to meet the client's objectives
  • Quality checking key deliverables, ensuring they are delivered accurately and to the highest quality

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need demonstrable experience of both quantitative & qualitative projects from inception through to delivery. Health and social care sector experience is NOT essential but someone who has a strong interest in this area is.

  • Very good quantitative and qualitative social research skills, and ability to comfortably pick up projects and deliver day-to-day
  • Good project and budget management skills
  • Ability to work to tight and demanding deadlines to deliver profitable work and assure quality of all outputs
  • Experience in writing questionnaires, discussion guides, fieldwork materials etc.
  • Proficiency in Excel, SPSS and other packages (desired, not essential)
  • Very good communication, client handling and supplier negotiation skills
